Coconut Oil

So it seems that recently coconut oil has become very popular, I keep hearing about it and the many uses and benefits associated with its use. I have started reading articles on this popular oil and was really surprised as to the many ways it can be used. But the one I really wanted to try was a treatment on my hair, it’s supposed to make it soft & healthy not to mention very shiny. I have thick, coarse hair so I cannot just wash it & let it air dry, if so it would look like I would be auditioning for a part in Lion King. So my hair routine consists of drying, then either using a straight or curling iron, so I cause a lot of damage. I need some kind of treatment that will help my hair cope with the stress I cause. Even though I have gone to washing my hair every other day, I still feel like it’s not helping repair the damage my hair goes thru daily. I have bought so many products that are intended to be used with heat, but they either smell bad or just make my hair stiff. I decided to buy coconut oil, I mean if it didn’t work for my hair, the good thing is that it could be used for so many other purposes, so it wouldn’t be a total waste. It was time to give it a try, I put it in the microwave to melt it & warm it up a bit so that it can be used as a hot oil treatment. I massaged it into my entire hair & scalp & wrapped a warm towel for about 30 minutes. I was completely surprised by the results my hair was soft but I was more impressed with the shine. I read that for best results leave it in for about 1 to 2 hrs. I only used it for 30 minutes so I can just imagine the difference if I leave it in for 2 hours. It can also be used as an overnight treatment just rub it and wash in the morning. Or just on the ends to repair damage. I found my Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil at TJ Maxx just $7.99 for a 14 oz jar. Here are a few other ways to use Coconut Oil

1. As an under eye cream because it moisturizes

2. As cuticle oil just rub it in until absorbed

3. As an eye makeup remover

4. Removes hair flyaway’s just rub into hands & then sweep through hair.

5. At home body scrub by adding sugar

6. At home treatment for dry feet just by adding salt

Statement Necklaces

This is a trend that I hope continues for a while because I own so many statement necklaces. I have invested a lot of time looking for this trendy accessory but not a lot of money. There are so many necklaces available now and the great thing is that it’s such a small investment to make a bold statement. For me the bigger the better & I just love the multi-colored ones. My requirements are Big, Bold and definitely Eye-Catching. When I wear these pieces I feel like no other jewelry is needed, and that’s what I like because I’m not into wearing big earrings.  I love these statement pieces with jeans & a t-shirt, especially when they are multi-colored, then I just pick one of the colors from the necklace & match my clutch. They take my casual look to the next level & make my outfit pop. Here are a few I love

Peter Som for DesigNation

So the Peter Pilotto for Target collection was a big hit & no longer available in stores. Good thing I was able to acquire some of the pieces in the collection, although I was not able to get everything I wanted. Some items sold out so fast that by the time I got a chance to go shopping I was out of luck. Well good thing that there are other retail stores that are also into doing limited edition collections with designers. Which I really enjoy because I can get designer items that are reasonably priced & also limited editions. So now I have the Peter Som for DesigNation collaboration to look forward too. This collection will be available April 10 2014 @ Kohl’s and only for a limited time.  “Inspired by St. Barths, Peter Som’s DesigNation collection evokes the colors, the culture and the bliss of island life”.
